The Denu high court in the Volta Region has restrained the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from holding elections in the Anlo constituency.
The elections scheduled to take place on Monday (2 May) have been met with some reservations over the absence of an electorates register.
The injunction application which was filed by four members of the party, Eurika Gakpetor, Francis Yaw Gbemu, Richard Agbagba and Isaac Tatra prayed the court to annul a previous polling station executive officers’ elections because it did not follow laid down procedure of the NPP.
In a court document sighted by Asaase News, the court in granting the application ordered that the defendants – the NPP general secretary, John Boadu and five others and their agents are restrained from conducting the constituency elections without first conducting the polling station elections and electoral area coordinators elections.
“Discontinue court cases”
Meanwhile, Evans Nimako, the director of research and elections for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to aggrieved supporters of the party who are in court on some grievances to discontinue the cases.
Some aggrieved members have filed various injunctions against the party in some constituencies including Fomena and Okaikoi South in the ongoing elections across the country.
Reacting to the development on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (29 April), Nimako said the party has what it takes to resolve any internal wrangling that may come up in the ongoing elections.
“The party anticipating some level of dissatisfaction put in place the Cecelia Dapaah Committee, which has been sitting to resolve some of the few issues that came up during the polling station elections,” he said.
“For those that we have been able to resolve, they have been cleared to go ahead, but those pending, when the committee is done with its work we will submit the recommendations to the general secretary for the next action to be carried on.”
He added “In constituencies where people have gone to court ignoring the party’s internal mechanism, we can at this stage urge them to discontinue and when that is done the party will take action.”
Nimako has, however, warned members who flout the party’s constitution in the ongoing elections will be made to face the full rigorous of the law.
