GPL: Asante Kotoko need to improve on goal scoring, says Prosper Ogum

The Porcupine Warriors have scored 25 goals in 28 games, 0.9 per game, representing one of the lowest in the league

Asante Kotoko coach Dr Prosper Ogum says his side need to improve on goal scoring after drawing one all with the holders Medeama in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday.

Striker Steven Mukwala scored in the 22nd minute for Kotoko before Diawisie Taylor equalised in the 57th minute for Medeama with a converted penalty kick.

The result leaves Kotoko 11th on the league table, six points away from relegation with five games left. The Porcupine Warriors have scored 25 goals in 28 games- 0.9 per game one of the lowest in the league.

Ogum admits it is been a problem for his side throughout the season but insists they have been working on it in training.

“It’s been happening throughout the season. We create a lot of chances but then the conversion is the issue,” Ogum said in a post-match interview.

“Interestingly too we’ve been training on it, at training they score a lot of goals but the tempo and temperament of training and games are different.”

“I think we still need to work on it and be sure that the few chances that come our way will be converted. The game is about scoring goals,” he said.

Kotoko will host Legon Cities in their next game in Kumasi on Friday, 3 May 2024.
