Oti Region: Make offices and homes disability friendly, says regional minister

Makubu, a physically challenged politician, who was appointed by President Akufo-Addo as the Oti regional minister, said there is the need for everyone to always put persons with disability into their plans when building their offices and homes

The Oti Regional minister, Joshua Makubu, has called on all Ghanaians to consider making their offices and homes disability friendly.

Makubu, a physically challenged politician, who was appointed by President Akufo-Addo as the Oti regional minister, said there is the need for everyone to always put persons with disability into their plans when building their offices and homes.

At the 66th Independence Day address in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, Makubu said many persons with disability (PWD) find it very difficult to access public buildings and private homes. This makes life more challenging for them.

“I want to use this opportunity to make a passionate appeal to all Ghanaians and residents within the Oti region to make their offices and homes disability friendly,” he said.

Meanwhile, goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals emphasizes the need to ensure healthy lives and well-being for all persons with disability.

As Ghana strives to develop an all-inclusive society built on the principles of equality, justice and the rule of law, it is important that steps are taken to come to terms with the needs and challenges of PWDs. There is the need to mobilize support for their dignity, rights and well-being and, in the process, raise awareness on their contribution to society when they are given the necessary support.
