John Ampontuah Kumah to be laid to rest 18 May

A one-week observance was held in Ejisu on Thursday, drawing dignitaries and sympathizers from across the country

John Ampontuah Kumah, the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region will be laid to rest on Saturday (18 May).

The final funeral rites are scheduled to take place on Sunday (19 May), his family has confirmed.

The 45-year-old lawmaker, affectionately known as lawyer John Kumah, passed away earlier this month after a brief illness, leaving behind a wife and six children.

He was widely esteemed for his integrity and dedication to job creation initiatives.

Throughout his tenure, Kumah served as a beacon of hope for the constituents of Ejisu, earning respect from both the young and old in his community.

His commitment to public service and tireless efforts to improve the lives of others earned him admiration and support.

A one-week observance was held in Ejisu on Thursday, drawing dignitaries and sympathizers from across the region. Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was among those who paid their respects at Kumah’s hometown, reflecting on his contributions to the community and the nation at large.

Attendees at the observance, including constituents and well-wishers, adorned red and black attire as a symbol of mourning.

Lawyer John Kumah until his death served as Deputy Finance Minister under the Akufo-Addo administration. His immediate boss and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been eulogising his colleague describing him as a “dynamic young man, very passionate about the youth”.

“It came as a great shock and surprise when it occurred because as a minister who had worked with him since 2021, it is just one of those events you don’t expect to happen. Certainly, we are aware of the health challenges in which we were helping but we never thought it would come to this. So, it is difficult to even today accept that John is no more”, Ofori-Atta told Asaase News’ Bright Yeboah in an exclusive interview.
