The Ghana Garden and Flower Show seeks to contribute to Ghana’s growth environmentally, in health, wealth and beauty, and also to create awareness

Stratcomm Africa will launch the tenth edition of the Ghana Garden and Flower Show on Monday 4 July 2022 in the beautiful garden of Goldkey Properties, Cantonments, in Accra.

The Ghana Garden and Flower Show seeks to contribute to Ghana’s growth environmentally, in health, wealth and beauty and also to create awareness among Ghanaians about the commercial, aesthetic, environmental and health benefits of horticulture and floriculture.

The chief executive officer and lead consultant for Stratcomm Africa, Esther A N Cobbah, has called on Ghanaians to support the initiative to promote a greener environment.

“We realise that a lot of people didn’t understand gardens and that they take flowers for granted because we are so blessed with a lot of sunshine, soil and water,” Cobbah told Asaase News. “We take it so much for granted – we don’t realise we can get a lot of money from growing flowers.”

She said besides protecting and beautifying the environment, flowers have monetary benefits.

“Holland has been getting a lot of money from flowers, South Africa, Kenya, even Ethiopia, with the kind of soil and vegetation that they have.

“So, we thought that we will use our communication expertise to educate people about what floriculture and horticulture can do for the country and for us as individuals. We are encouraging everybody to plan little flower gardens around them,” Cobbah said.

She added: “If people don’t have space they should try and come to the Ghana Garden and Flower Show and we will help them to develop what we call unusual gardens, where we have gardens in old buckets, in old washroom bowls … So that, together, we will create green around us.

“We import flowers for our weddings, our funerals, our birthdays. If I tell you how much foreign exchange it is, it will amaze you.

“If we are able to produce even half the flowers that we use in this country, we would be saving a lot of money and could possibly export some. That is why the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement came about,” Cobbah said.

Stratcomm Africa is a communications and reputation management agency that uses communication to enhance organisational performance.
