Mali’s Defense Ministry denies human rights abuse allegations revealed in book

The Malian Ministry of Defence denounce allegations of human rights abuse revealed in a book by an officer of the Malian Armed forces

In a communique released on the 1 March, the Malian Ministry of Defence and Former Combatants, denounce certain paragraphs of the book, “Mali: le défi du terrorisme en Afrique” which translates to Mali: The Challenge of Terrorism in Africa.

The 400-page book written by Colonel Alpha Yaya Sangaré, an officer of the Malian Armed forces (FA Ma) cites serious human rights violations by FA Ma with the complicity of the military hierarchy and acts of sabotage against the State of Mali.

Sangare was arrested late on Saturday, but his family confirmed the arrest on Sunday.

Mali has been faced with acts of terrorism for over a decade since 2012. There have been various forms of human rights abuses, including but limited to sexual violence against men, women and children and the recruitment of child soldiers.
