Yaw Adutwum’s education reforms prove readiness to lead NPP – Campaign spokesperson

The campaign team of former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says his record in transforming Ghana’s education sector positions him as a credible and prepared leader for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (13 January), spokesperson Yaw Opoku Mensah argued that leadership ambition within the party must be grounded in demonstrable public service.

“You cannot just come from anywhere and begin to be ambitious about leading the New Patriotic Party. Your track record must be placed on the table for everyone to see what you are capable of doing,” he said.

Opoku Mensah maintained that Dr Adutwum’s stewardship at the Ministry of Education formed a critical pillar of the NPP’s governance record ahead of the 2024 elections, noting that the party’s communicators were consistently confident when defending education policies.

He credited former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s focus on education and described Dr Adutwum as an “erudite minister” whose reforms were designed to prepare Ghana for a technology-driven global economy.

According to the campaign spokesperson, the Adutwum campaign is not solely about education outcomes but about using education as a foundation to improve livelihoods and national competitiveness.

“The world is moving in the direction of science, technology and innovation. If Ghana wants to give its people a dignified life, then education must be at the centre of that vision,” he said.

Opoku Mensah added that Dr Adutwum’s campaign places the individual Ghanaian—not abstract economic indicators—at the centre of policy thinking.
