Ya-Naa sends apology to Nayiri over comments by lawyer Inusah Fuseini

The Overlord of Dagbang, Ndan Ya-Naa Abubakari Mahama, has dispatched a delegation to apologise to the King of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sherigah II, following controversial remarks made by lawyer Inusah Fuseini on a national television station.
The comments, which appeared to undermine the Nayiri’s authority over the Bawku skin, stirred public backlash after the former Member of Parliament misrepresented the Bawku traditional leadership structure.
On Monday (28 April 2025), a delegation led by the Balugu kpana laana, a sub-chief from Yendi, visited the Nayiri Palace in Nalerigu to seek forgiveness.
The Ya-Naa’s representatives stressed that any opposition to Mamprugu is an affront to the entire Gbeewa family, which encompasses Mamprugu, Dagbang, and Nanung.
Lawyer Inusah Fuseini, former MP for Tamale Central, had made remarks that appeared to challenge the Nayiri’s jurisdiction over the Bawku skin, a territory within the Mamprugu Kingdom where the Nayiri has the authority to enskin chiefs.
The Nayiri accepted the apology and requested that the Ya-Naa also extend forgiveness to lawyer Inusah, acknowledging his lack of understanding of the history and formation of Bawku.
