World Cup 2022:Otto Addo confident Ghana can compete against any team

Black Stars coach Otto Addo believes they have what it takes to compete with their group opponents at the World Cup

Ghana coach Otto Addo says he is confident his team can compete with any other team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Addo announced his final 26-man squad on Monday with two home-based; Danlad Ibrahim of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak forward Afriyie Barnieh making the cut.

Inaki Williams and Mohammed Salisu made the list as well as Abdul Salis Samed RC Lens in the French League.

Kamal Sowah of Clubbe Brugge in Belgium after countless rejections to play for the team also made the cut for the tournament.

With three major absentees in Goalkeepers Jojo Wollacot and Richard Ofori and midfielder Baba Iddrisu all missing due to injuries, Otto Addo insists he has the best 26-man team to face Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

“I am very confident that the players that have been selected will be able to compete on any day and win against any team. We have a very good mix of players who can play to win and I am very happy with the technical staff who are behind me to provide support at the world cup.” He said.

The squad announcement also saw the exclusion of big names, including Joseph Paintsil, Majeed Ashimeru, Jeff Schlupp, and Mubarak Wakaso.

The German-based Ghanaian trainer apologized to the players left out but insists his decision is in the best interest of the team.

“I am very sorry to the players that were not picked and I appreciate that from the outside looking at some decisions will not make sense but this is the decision we have made,” he said

“I want to have a well-balanced team and sometimes this brings me to difficult decisions. There were some very close decisions and I’m very sorry to those who couldn’t make it to the team due to injuries or due to my decision.”
