World Cup 2022: Otto Addo insists Kurt Okraku doesn’t interfere with his work
The German-based Ghanaian trainer has dispelled reports that Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku manipulates his team selection for the Black Stars
Ghana coach Otto Addo has stated that he is his own man and for that matter, no one including Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku interferes in his work.
Following a long-standing statement by Kurt Okraku regarding Black Stars selection- that no single person will select a squad under his reign, many have continuously questioned the independence of coaches of the national team in taking decisions regarding which players are picked.
Otto Addo who named his final 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup on Monday defended his decision to omit in-form players Joseph Paintsil and Jeffery Schlupp from the squad.
He explained his criteria for selecting the final 26 and thanked Kurt Okraku for giving him the free hand to work.
“I would like to say thank you to the president for believing in me from day one and letting me do my work how I want it to be,” he said
This is surely the number one circumstance I would like to have again. Every time when I work, I want to do it my way”.
The Black Stars have opened camp in Abu Dhabi ahead of their group opener against Portugal on November 24.
The team will play Switzerland in a trial game on Thursday, November 17 in Abu Dhabi.
