Builsa North: Two residents sustain gunshot wounds in robbery attack

The police say the robbers also made away with an amount of GHC3, 000 and unspecified small currency denominations

A Tuesday night robbery attack in Wiaga township in the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region has left two persons with gunshot wounds, Asaase News’s Senyalah Castro, reports.

Around 8.pm on Tuesday (23 November 2021), a gang of five gunmen arrived in the township on two motorbikes and robbed a shop named Good Family amidst sporadic gunfire.

The sporadic shooting resulted in two persons sustaining gunshot wounds on their legs.

A Toyota Corolla with reg. No. AS 3711-10 was also damaged.

According to a police situational report, the robbers carried out the robbery with a pistol, an AK47 assault rifle and a pump-action gun.

The report said while one robber took guard of the entrance of the shop, the others terrorized the cashier, shop attendant and customers.

The robbers, the report further stated, succeeded in seizing an amount of GHC3, 000, several mobile phones and a Yamaha Siris motorbike from the cashier and customers.

The police report said the wounded were transported to the Saint Lucas Hospital in Wiaga and are currently responding to treatment.

Three AK 47 empty shells were retrieved from the crime scene.

Investigations have begun to identify the perpetrators behind the robbery, the police report added.

“On 23/11/2021 about 2030hrs Sandema Police received a distress call that, there was robbery ongoing at Wiaga township. On receiving the information, the District Commander in charge patrol team proceeded to Wiaga on Enquiries and reported that crowd were met gathered Infront of Good Family Store, Wiaga branch,” the police report stated.

“Enquiries revealed that five young men on two motorbikes came to the store area and two entered the shop with one wielding a pistol and ordered the shop attendants to lay on the floor and demanded the sales from the cashier whiles the other three with one wielding AK 47 assault rifle and the other a pump-action gun was guarding the entrance amidst sporadic firing into a stationary Toyota Corolla car with Reg. No. AS 3711-10 which had been parked in front of the shop.”

“The robbers succeeded and took away cash the sum of GHC3,000.00, unspecified small currency denominations, coins, two Techno mobile phones, one Infinix Hot 6, other phones, items of the customers in the shop and a Yamaha Sirius motorbike with Reg No. M-21-US-4245.”

“Enquiries were extended to Saint Martin Hospital, Wiaga and met victims aged 55 years and 20 years at the OPD with gunshot wounds on their legs responding to treatment. Three empty shells of AK 47 ammunition were retrieved from the scene for evidential purposes. Efforts are being made to apprehend the culprits to assist police investigations.”
