Founder of Victory Bible Church International, Bishop Nii Apiakai Tackie-Yarboi, has cautioned against any attempt by government to regulate or control the practice of prophecy, arguing that spiritual revelations cannot be subjected to legislation.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (31 October), the seasoned cleric acknowledged that while prophetic excesses exist, genuine prophecy remains a vital part of the Christian faith and has historically guided nations and societies.
“Prophecies are good. The Bible gives many examples where prophecy benefited society,” Bishop Tackie-Yarboi said. “But unfortunately, for anything that is good, there are also abuses.”
He, however, agreed that individuals who misuse prophecy to cause fear or harm should face consequences.
“If your prophetic word dehumanises people or creates fear and panic, you should be held accountable. But for government to legislate how prophecy is given—it’s not possible. It’s spiritual,” he argued.
The bishop emphasised that prophetic communication requires sensitivity, wisdom, and redemption—not condemnation.
“Anything God reveals is meant to redeem, not destroy,” he said. “Even when God sends a warning, there is always an element of mercy and redemption.”
Bishop Tackie-Yarboi called for responsibility within the church, urging Christian leaders to maintain integrity, avoid sensationalism, and remember that they are only messengers.
“God is not the author of confusion, and He has not given us the spirit of fear. We must be wise and discerning in handling prophecy.”
He further encouraged collaboration between faith leaders and civil authorities in promoting peace and social order while protecting freedom of worship.
