Woman arrested for cooking at reopened Kejetia Market

Arrest kidnapping headmaster/Enugu Catholic priest murder, Nsukka Diocese, Nigeria

A woman has been arrested for cooking at the Kejetia Market on Tuesday (21 March) a few days after fire destroyed property worth millions of Ghana cedis.

The facility managers have served notice that anyone caught using naked fire at the market will be sanctioned.

The food vender was captured in a video published online by a leader of the traders’ union, Nana Prempeh.

“The fire service got wind of a lady fanning a coal pot fire near the lorry terminal and when they got there they found out that she was warming soup,” Rueben Amey, one of the market leaders told Asaase News.

“Another aspect is that she is not authorised to be there,” he added. “We are not going to allow such things to happen in this market. We will not allow anybody’s negligence to cost us. We are all on high alert.”

Meanwhile, the police have arrested one Felicia Opoku as the principal suspect for last Wednesday’s fire incident leading to the destruction of over 30 stores at the Kejetia Market.
