Anyidoho to Samuel Atta Mills: What have you done to keep Atta Mills’s legacy?

Anyidoho’s sharp comment follows accusations levelled against him by Samuel Atta Mills suggesting that Koku has tampered with the tomb of Mills’s late brother President John Evans Atta Mills

Samuel Koku Anyidoho, the founder and chief executive of the Atta Mills Institute, has responded sharply to a brother of John Evans Atta Mills for questioning his loyalty to the legacy of the late president.

Anyidoho’s comment follows accusations levelled against him by Samuel Atta Mills, suggesting that Koku has tampered with the tomb of the late president.

Speaking with Benjamin Offei-Addo on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (20 July 2022), ahead of the tenth anniversary of the death of President Atta Mills, Anyidoho questioned whether it was a crime to preserve the late president’s legacy.

“That brother of his, ask him what he has done in the last ten years to keep the memory of his late brother alive.

“… I respect that family. One brother is not family. Is it a crime to keep his brother’s legacy alive? If it is a crime for Asomdwee Park [the ceremonial burial site of the president] to be built, come and nail me to some cross – that is all I will say,” Anyidoho declared.

Atta Mills, who died aged 68 ten years ago, served as vice-president to Jerry John Rawlings between 1997 and 2001 before becoming president.

Though the cause of President Atta Mills’s death in July 2012 was not made public, he was reportedly suffering from throat cancer, and in the days leading up to his death he had been in the United States to seek medical attention.
