We’ve not started charging VAT on electricity consumption, says ECG

Staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has clarified that it has not started charging VAT on electricity consumption.

The Trades Union and Congress (TUC) and former president John Mahama have all called for the reversal of VAT on electricity consumption adding that it will worsen the plight of Ghanaians.

The Value Added Tax (VAT) will be applicable to residential electricity customers exceeding the designated maximum consumption level specified for block charges associated with lifeline units.

A statement issued by ECG on Monday ( 22 January) said “The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that the Value Added Tax (VAT) on residential electricity consumption above life line category has not been implemented. All stakeholders should take note.”
