We’ve instituted measures to sustain Homowo clean-up campaign, says Edwin Amoako

The one-month campaignis designed to promote good waste management practices, improve environmental hygiene, and instil a sense of community ownership and responsibility towards maintaining a clean environment

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) says measures have been put in place to sustain the Homowo clean-up campaign which kicked off in the Central Business District on Tuesday (2 July).

Businesses and shops in designated areas in Accra will be required to shut down for the exercise.

The one-month campaign, under the theme, “Let’s Keep Accra Clean,” is designed to promote good waste management practices, improve environmental hygiene, and instil a sense of community ownership and responsibility towards maintaining a clean environment.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ga Traditional Council (GTC) and other government agencies, targeting all 25 local government authorities within the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (2 July), managing director of Zoomlion Private Services Limited, Edwin Amoako said his company is collaborating with the traditional authorities and security services to sustain the campaign.

“We have come into a very nice collaboration whereby within the facilities itself, the Asafoatse (traditional taskforce enforcers of the law) will be ensuring that the clean campaign we have started will be sustained.”

“So we believe that this is just the beginning of something that should be sustainable. We have put in measures to ensure the sustainability continues,” Amoako said.
