We’re here to wake up the government, Sam George at NPP delegates’ conference

Sam George says he expected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to organise a rather simple event in line with the economic situation

Sam George, the MP for Ningo-Prampram, has accused the Akufo-Addo government of sleeping on the job, saying it is the main reason why the economy is in crisis.

Representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the governing party’s annual delegates’ conference on Saturday (16 July) in Accra, George said he expected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to organise a rather simple event in line with the economic situation.

“We are seeing the signs of ostentation, the amount of monies that are being thrown around to entice delegates,” the lawmaker told the media at the Accra Sports Stadium, where the conference is taking place. “From a party that has moved this country to an economic mess, you would have expected that they would have been very decent”.

George alleged that the candidates are engaging in vote-buying.

“For a government that has driven this economy into a mess, you are asking yourself where are the candidates getting the money? It looks like there are two ‘Ghanas’. A Ghana for NPP national executives, NPP functionaries, and a Ghana for the rest of us, and it’s sad.”

He added: “There is no special market for NPP delegates, there’s no special market for non NPP persons. So, they also feel the same bite as us. So, we are just here to wake up the government and wake president Akufo-Addo up.”

There are 47 aspirants vying for 10 positions at the national level. A total of 6,730 delegates will be casting their votes at 20 polling centres at the venue.
