The Wenchi Traditional Council has directed all residents within the Wenchi Traditional Area to wear black attire from Monday, 21 July to Friday, 25 July 2025, in honour of the late Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Atoa Ampoforo Tweewa Otosuo Seramangyedua III.
The directive, announced by the Chief Linguist (Akyeamehene) of the Wenchi Traditional Area, Nana Asusi-Poku Kofabae Damoah Koasane IV, is to mark the official one-week funeral observation of the revered queen mother, scheduled for Friday, 25 July 2025.
According to Nana Koasane IV, the period of mourning is not only a symbol of grief but also a call to unity, respect, and deep cultural reverence.
“This is a moment for the people of Wenchi to come together in solemn reflection and honour the life and legacy of our late Queen Mother,” he stated.
Nana Atoa Ampoforo Tweewa Otosuo Seramangyedua III passed away peacefully on Friday, 13 June 2025, at the age of 95. She was installed as the Paramount Queen Mother of the Wenchi Traditional Area on 7 January 1977, and served diligently for 48 years.
Known in private life as Abena Nsia, also called Abena Boatemaa, she was the sixth child of her parents and a symbol of strength, wisdom, and leadership throughout her reign. Her passing marks the end of an era, and her legacy remains deeply woven into the fabric of Wenchi’s cultural and traditional heritage.
The Traditional Council urges all residents, institutions, and visitors in the area to comply with the directive to wear black attire during this period as a show of respect and unity.
Final funeral rites are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
