Wenchi Traditional Council mourns the passing of Queen Mother Nana Atoa Seramangyedua III

The revered Queen Mother passed away peacefully on Friday, 13 June 2025, at the age of 95

The Wenchi Traditional Council in the Bono Region has formally announced the passing of the Paramount Queen Mother of the Wenchi Traditional Area, Nana Atoa Seramangyedua III.

The revered Queen Mother passed away peacefully on Friday, 13 June 2025, at the age of 95. Her death marks the end of a remarkable 48-year reign, which began on 7 January 1977, when she was enstooled as the Paramount Queen Mother of Wenchi.

Born Abena Nsia, affectionately known as Abena Boatemaa in private life, Nana Atoa Seramangyedua III was the sixth child of her parents.

She later took the stool name Nana Ampofo Tweewa Ɔtɔnsuo Atoa Seramangyedua III, becoming a symbol of tradition, wisdom, and maternal leadership in the Wenchi Traditional Area and beyond.

In a solemn announcement on Friday morning, Nana Owusu Ameyaw Ababio, Head of the Ahenfie Yefiri Royal Family and Abakomahene of the Wenchi Traditional Council, shared the news of her passing from the royal family house in Wenchi.

To honour her memory, the Wenchi Traditional Council has declared a one-week mourning period and directed all residents of the traditional area to wear black as a sign of respect and collective grief.

Nana Atoa Seramangyedua III leaves behind a profound legacy of cultural preservation, community development, and maternal strength, a life deeply rooted in service to her people.
