The Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey has warned that persons who incite violence before, during, or after this year’s general elections will not be spared from facing the law, irrespective of their political affiliation.
The minister’s comments come after reports that some registration centres marked for the ongoing limited voter registration exercise have recorded instances of violence.
“Let me sound the wording again; you know my track record. I walk my talk. Anybody who goes to do something other than what is prescribed, we will do our best to ensure that the law will take its course and the court of competent jurisdiction will do its work,” he said.
Assuring his team’s commitment to ensuring peace, the minister said a series of engagements will soon be held with relevant stakeholders to remind the citizens of the law that governs elections and its related matters.
“In a few months, I will be holding a series of engagements with the media, with the traditional authorities, the political parties, CSOs and we will remind them of our duties and the laws governing this country.”
