“We won’t ambush the minister, but we need answers” – Kennedy Osei Nyarko on mysterious aircraft landings
Speaking on the “Asaase Breakfast Show” on Monday (7 April), Osei Nyarko insisted that Parliament’s roads and transport committee is determined to get to the bottom of the incident without undermining the oversight structure of Parliament

The ranking Member of Parliament’s roads and transport committee, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, says the Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, will be summoned to respond to critical questions surrounding two aircraft that recently landed in Ghana under unclear circumstances.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (7 April), Osei Nyarko said that the committee is determined to get to the bottom of the incident without undermining the oversight structure of Parliament.
“We don’t want to ambush the minister by going to the agency without even informing him or going through him,” he said. “We prefer to use the minister who oversees these agencies so that he can feed the information to us.”
The Akim Swedru MP revealed that the committee has outlined 26 questions focused on the purpose, flight paths and cargo content of the aircraft with registration number N823AM, operated by Cavok Air and AirMed.
According to him, the committee intends to conduct a thorough probe through the right parliamentary channels to ensure transparency and avoid public speculation.
“This is the initial step we are taking to get more information … If nothing wrong happened, that’s fine. But if something did, we must know who was responsible, who gave clearance, and whether protocol was breached,” he added.
“For all Ghanaians”
Nyarko dismissed claims that the Minority was merely politicising the issue, stressing instead that the probe is in the national interest.
“It’s not a matter of the Minority. It’s a matter for all Ghanaians. The Ghanaian public is interested in knowing exactly what happened.”
Osei Nyarko explained that his committee is working on the civil aviation and transport aspects of the matter.
“My colleague is doing a very good job. He has brought this matter up, which has become very critical … We are fighting to ensure that issues like drug trafficking and security breaches do not destroy the moral fibre of our country.”
Global concerns
The two mysterious flights reportedly arrived in Ghana in early March and departed for Gran Canaria in Spain on 25 March. Their unexplained presence has raised questions, particularly against the backdrop of global concerns about trafficking in drugs and people and the implications for national security.
Osei Nyarko assured the public that the committee remains active and committed to uncovering the facts although Parliament has been on recess since 28 March.
“Whether Parliament is in session or on recess, committees are still working. We are simply performing our oversight responsibilities.”
The roads and transport committee’s investigation is expected to involve not only the Minister of Transport, but also key officials from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and Ghana Airports Company Ltd.
