National Youth Organiser aspirant Michael Osei Boateng says rebuilding the New Patriotic Party’s tertiary students’ network, Tescon, and strengthening grassroots youth structures will be among his top priorities if elected.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (21 July), Boateng acknowledged that Tescon’s influence on university campuses has declined and called for a comprehensive overhaul.
“We have to rebrand Tescon, re-energise the base and give members a clear vision of our flagbearer and the party,” he said.
Boateng said rebuilding Tescon would be one of the key benchmarks by which his tenure should be assessed.
“When we rebuild Tescon institutions, you will see the activeness. You will see that it has gone beyond expectation.”
He also pledged to ensure graduates remain connected to the party after leaving university.
“We have plans to engage graduates because they eventually occupy leadership positions. There are specialised activities they can help the party undertake.”
Boateng said the party should create opportunities for graduates who wish to remain active in politics.
“If you are a graduate and you have nothing doing, you can align with the NPP so we can give you responsibilities to help build the party.”
Beyond tertiary institutions, he said his strategy would focus on grassroots mobilisation across the country.
“The national youth wing will not remain at headquarters. We will build our structures from the polling stations because that is where elections are won.”
Boateng argued that effective youth leadership requires experience across different social groups.
“The youth are not only in tertiary institutions. They are in markets, farms and communities across the country. You need someone who understands all these categories.”
He added that technology would be central to his administration, describing it as indispensable in modern political organisation.
“You cannot do away with technology. Apart from gathering data, technology can be used for many things.”
