WASSCE: NUGS halts planned protest as WAEC agrees to release withheld results by 1 March

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has suspended its planned demonstration against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) following firm assurances from the examination body regarding the release of withheld results.

The country’s largest student front held an emergency meeting with WAEC officials and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) as calls grow to resolve the issue.

In a release on Facebook on Monday (24 February), NUGS however announced that WAEC has committed to releasing all pending withheld results by 1 March. This development prompted the student body to put its protest, originally scheduled for today, 25 February, on hold.

In addition to the release of results, NUGS has been invited to present policy proposals on reforms concerning the handling of examination malpractice cases. The union expressed its commitment to ensuring that students’ rights are protected and pledged to closely monitor WAEC’s adherence to its promise.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take further action if necessary to protect the rights of affected students,” NUGS stated.
