Takoradi Technical University: Tobinco launches 200k scholarship program

The Scholarship program, which was created on June 2, 2022, at the University's Auditorium as part of Tobbin's vision for the University since his appointment by President Nana Akufo Addo, is designed to encourage talented but needy university students.

Takoradi Technical University (TTU) Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Samuel Amo Tobbin, has donated GHC200,000 as startup capital to the Takoradi Technical University Scholarship Scheme.

The Scholarship program, which was created today, June 2, 2022, at the University’s Auditorium as part of Tobbin’s vision for the University since his appointment by President Nana Akufo Addo, is designed to encourage talented but needy university students.

Dr. Tobbin stated that the money is not a one-time investment, but would ensure that the Tobinco Group of Companies makes a monthly payment into the fund to help it develop and provide support to outstanding but disadvantaged students.

He explained that the move is an improvement to the already existing scholarship scheme of the University.

He stated that, with the cooperation of the other council members, he will seek further funding for the program from companies, organizations, and private individuals.

Dr. Elder Amo Tobbin encouraged enterprises, universities, businesses, and the general public to sponsor the initiative in order to help young, smart, but underprivileged kids.

According to him, his motivation of instituting a scholarship scheme for the brilliant but needy students was premised on a scripture which says “Investing to the needy is a loan to God.”

In an address, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, urged Dr. Elder Amo Tobbin to utilize his power to expand the scholarship system he founded.

He expressed optimism that the Council Chairman’s effort will reveal larger potential and impact the lives of many pupils.

He also urged everyone to contribute to the scheme’s success.
