Manchester City seal historic four-peat with final-day win over West Ham

Manchester City have finished the Premier League season in imperious form, winning their last nine games to secure their historic title

Manchester City cemented their place in Premier League history on Sunday (19 May), securing a dramatic fourth consecutive title with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side knew a win would seal the championship, regardless of Arsenal’s result against Everton at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners, trailing City by two points, were left to rue missed opportunities as City produced a dominant display.

Phil Foden silenced any early nerves with a stunning strike within two minutes. The England international unleashed a powerful drive from 25 yards that arrowed past Alphonse Areola in the West Ham goal. Foden doubled City’s lead just 16 minutes later, turning home a Jeremy Doku cross to put the Citizens firmly in control.

West Ham threatened a comeback when Mohammed Kudus produced a spectacular overhead kick to reduce the deficit in the 42nd minute.

City started the second half with less urgency but restored their two-goal advantage before the hour mark. Rodri displayed his composure to finish from the edge of the box after a well-worked move.

Tomas Soucek thought he had pulled one back for West Ham, but his effort was chalked off for handball by VAR.

Manchester City have finished the Premier League season in imperious form, winning their last nine games. Since a goalless draw at Arsenal in late March, Guardiola’s men have been unstoppable, overtaking the Gunners at the summit and ultimately claiming a historic fourth consecutive title.

City’s celebrations will be short-lived as they set their sights on a domestic double. Pep Guardiola’s side will face Manchester United in next weekend’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium, aiming to repeat their 2023 triumph.
