Ghana Baptist Convention celebrates 60th anniversary, pledges strong commitment to human resource development

The executive president of the church has underscored the significance of knowledge enhancement as a means to tackle emerging challenges effectively

The Ghana Baptist Convention has recently marked its momentous 60th anniversary, reinforcing its unwavering dedication to human resource development.

Recognising the paramount importance of cultivating a robust human resource base to meet both current and future needs, the Church’s executive president, Reverend Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, underscored the significance of knowledge enhancement as a means to tackle emerging challenges effectively.

During a jubilant event held at Kumasi’s Jubilee Park on Sunday, (5 November), which drew thousands of worshippers, the Convention’s commitment to improving the lives of its members and actively engaging in evangelism-driven activities was palpable.

Reverend Thompson highlighted the Convention’s numerous contributions in the fields of education, healthcare, and social welfare, underscoring their dedication to the betterment of society.

However, the Church also confronts substantial challenges, including reconciling the Baptist polity’s principles of local church autonomy with the broader context of social contracts and associations.

“We have worked hard over the years to emphasize a proper understanding of the polity which is the concept and practice of cooperative autonomy…Local Baptist Churches are autonomous in their day-to-day administration and operations but have binding social and divine responsibility to cooperate with sister churches in associations and the Convention for a more rapid development”, he said.

“This struggle had negatively affected all aspects of local ownership and continued to weigh down funding of the Convention and its ministries”, Rev. Thompson observed.

Nana Adu Mensah Asare, the chief of Amakom who represented the , commended the Convention for their contribution to national development.

The event was celebrated under the theme: “Fulfilling God’s purpose, building God’s church – 60 years on.”
