Volta Region: Botoku installs developmental chief

Elders and kingmakers of the Botoku traditional area in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region have installed a Ghanaian US-based real estate developer as developmental chief.

Ruben Tetteh Azu was installed on Saturday, 11 May 2024 in Botoku. His stool name is Togbe Dunenyo I of the Botoku traditional area.

Addressing the community after the colourful event, Togbe Dunenyo promised to prioritise development in the areas of education, telecommunications, clean energy and road infrastructure in the area.

He also said he would partner with his USA counterparts to invest in tourism and agriculture in the Botoku enclave.

The chief said, “Our priority is to provide water for our people, so we’ve in progress a sachet water production plant; that’s the first project.”

The Botoku enclave is a hard-to-reach farming and fishing community in the district. The area is covered with mountains, the Volta lake and fertile land for farming.

The new chief said, “Our priority is going to be agriculture and tourism because that’s the main work of our people. had interaction with a lot of our people and they say they plant and nobody buys so we’re going to work on that and get people back into the field.”

On tourism, Togbe Dunenyo I said, “We’re talking to the investor community; we want Botoku to be in the spotlight. We’re going to bring people here to see what we have, in terms of Volta Lake.”

On clean energy and telecommunications infrastructure, the chief promised to bring solar power systems into the community and also talk to telcos to install networks in the community.

On education, he promised to revamp the Botoku Technical Institute. The school currently lacks friendly classrooms and administration blocks.

He said he would prioritise the road network leading to the community, which is in a deplorable state, adding that he is ready to partner with political leaders to develop the area.

The paramount chief of the area, Togbega Atamtia VI, addressing the gathering, said, “I extend my deepest appreciation to the newly installed developmental chief for his commitment to the progress and development of the Botoku traditional area.”

The installation ceremony was characterised by a rich culture among the people of Krobo, the maternal factions of the new chief.
