Residents along the coastal belt in the Volta Region have taken the lead by planting trees in their various home settlements to encourage an eco-friendly environment.
The residents say they are acting in the spirit of the national Green Ghana Day tree planting initiative.
The Green Ghana Project aims to plant five million trees across the country in one day on Friday 11 June.
The residents, led by the Denyigba Lorlor Foundation, a locally based NGO in the Volta Region, have planted about 10,000 trees of different species along a 50-kilometre stretch of road between Anloga District and Keta.
Coconuts and cashews
Coconut, mahogany, cashew and cedar trees, among other species, have been planted along the route leading from Anyanui in Anloga through communities lining the route and all the way up to Keta.
The chief executive chief officer of the Denyigba Lorlor Foundation, Safo Mawuko Kutorwu, spoke with the media after the planting exercise, which took place over three days.
