Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has been re-elected as the chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region.
He beat his main rival, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, also known as Coka, to retain the NPP regional chairmanship position.
Wontumi obtained 464 votes while his closest challenger won 306.
Lead-up to the declaration
Voting had to be put on hold for well over an hour when agents representing Odeneho Kwaku Appiah challenged the eligibility of the NPP delegates from Obuasi West.
This delayed the voting process but finally the election committee chairman, Simon Osei Mensah, pleaded with the delegates to stand aside while the committee looked into their complaints and they accepted his request.
