VIDEO: Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy “hollow as an empty barrel”, says Bawumia

Mahamudu Bawumia has said that National Democratic Congress communicators are struggling to explain the 24-hour policy because it is completely hollow

Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described the 24-hour economy policy of his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama, as being “hollow as an empty barrel”.

The 24-hour economy policy, announced by Mahama last year, is the motor behind plans by the opposition National Democratic Congress for its flagship programme of measures to revive Ghana’s economy if the NDC wins power in the December general election.

Addressing NPP supporters to start the second phase of his nationwide campaign in Nalerigu (North East Region) on Wednesday (10 July 2024), Dr Bawumia accused Mahama of running away from debating him on key socio-economic policies ahead of the December polls.

“I am looking forward to a debate with John Mahama on the economy and governance but … he is running away from a debate and his people say he doesn’t want to debate,” said Bawumia.

“He says he doesn’t want to debate because he knows that I will expose the emptiness of his policies.

“He says he has a 24-hour economy policy that he cannot explain. It is as empty as an empty barrel. None of his people can explain it and they say they will be exporting lions and elephants,” he said.

“When we meet man to man, we can debate, and the country will see where our policies lie. And that is where we should go: give the country an opportunity to listen to us.

”But if he chooses not to debate, I will continue to sell my policies to the people of Ghana and you will take the decision,” Dr Bawumia said.
