President Akufo-Addo has paid a glowing tribute to Kwesi Atta, one of the drivers in his convoy who died in an incident over the weekend.
The incident happened at the Bunso-Asafo stretch of the highway at approximately 4pm while the convoy was on its way back from Kumasi, after accompanying the president to a series of events over the weekend.
The convoy on reaching a section of the road at Anyinasin near Akyem – Apedwa along the Kumasi – Accra Road, the driver Kwasi Atta overtook a tanker truck ahead of him and suddenly collided head-on with a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GE 2985-15.
President Akufo-Addo was in Accra when the incident happened.
Three others who sustained injuries were initially taken to the Suhum Government Hospital for initial treatment and later transferred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre.
Speaking ahead of a meeting with the leadership of Parliament on Monday (20 May), the president asked the gathering to observe a minute silence describing Kwesi Atta as a faithful employee.
“I will with your indulgence ask you to be upstanding to join me in paying a minute silence in memory of a faithful employee, Kwesi Atta who died tragically in an unnecessary accident this week in the line of duty. I wish all the three other affected persons speedy recovery,” Akufo-Addo said.
