Ashanti Region: 39 out of 43 MMDCEs take office

The swearing in of the 39 leaves four out of the 43 MMDAs in the region without chief executives

At least 39 metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) in the Ashanti Region have been sworn into office having received the nod of their respective assembly members.

This leaves four out of the 43 MMDAs in the region without chief executives.
Speaking at the swearing in ceremony, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, emphasised on the need for collective efforts.

He also called on the new MMDCEs to be team players and cooperate with MPs in the various constituencies in the districts.

“You are expected to work closely with your coordinating directors and the technocrats within your administration, cooperate with your honourable Members of Parliament, honourable presiding members, assembly members, heads of centralised departments and indeed all the relevant stakeholders at the local level to engender the much needed development in your area of jurisdiction,” Osei-Mensah said.

He also encouraged the MMDCEs to “gird up your loins to address the many challenges that will confront you”.

“I am confident, and trust in the capabilities and competence of each one of you to deliver. It is therefore my expectation that you stay focused and committed to the deepening of the gains made in the implementation of the numerous social interventions, policies and programmes introduced by government to bring about a remarkable improvement in the standard of living of Ghanaians as well as the realisation of the government’s transformational agenda.”

The four assemblies yet to endorse their chief executives are the Juaben, Sekyere Kumawu, Ahafo Ano North and Akrofoum.
