Kassena-Nankana: Dizemtaaba donates 500 dual desks to tackle furniture deficit
The donation by the group is to help address the deficit of furniture in the various schools in Kassena-Nankana Municipal and its environs
Dizemtaaba, a registered group of natives of the Kassena-Nankana area, has presented 500 pieces of dual desks to some selected schools in the Kassena-Nankana Municipal and West District.
The dual desks, constructed at a cost of GHC100, 000 form part of the group’s efforts to help improve the quality of education in the two assemblies.
The furniture donation is not the group’s first intervention in Kassena-Nankana. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the group gave huge support towards its prevention in the area.
At a brief ceremony to present the desks, Dr Dennis Chirawurah, who represented Dizemtaaba, noted that quality education was the most integral component of development in any society.
He said it was the reason the Dizemtaaba group raised various monetary contributions to help address the worrying furniture deficit in schools in the area.
Dr Chirawurah was hopeful the donation would inspire parents and teachers to support education to grow and also encourage school children to put in their best in their academic activities.
Dr Chirawurah urged the education directorates to judiciously distribute the desks and encouraged the beneficiary schools to take very good care of the furniture. He assured the group’s continued support for the development cause of Kassena-Nankana.
“We wish to appeal to our Assemblies and education directorates to ensure that this furniture is distributed to the few beneficiary schools for use immediately. We pledge to continue our fund-raising efforts to enable us to procure more furniture to fill the huge furniture deficit facing basic schools in our area,” Dr Chirawurah assured.
Timely support
The Kassena-Nankana municipal chief executive, Joseph Adongo, who received the desks on behalf of the two assemblies said the donation had come at a time the area was faced with several challenges including a deficit of classroom furniture.
He commended the group for their thoughtfulness and assured them that the furniture will be distributed to the various schools to improve teaching and learning.
Adongo, who acknowledged the several interventions the group has brought to the area, advised against politicising the group.
“The only thing that will let this group not work is politics. So, leave out politics, and work as a group who are determined to help the two districts. If you bring politics into it, it will not help us,” Adongo advised.
The deputy director of monitoring and supervision at the Kassena-Nankana municipal education directorate, Kenneth Kambilige, standing in for the directorates, assured that the desks will be put to good use and well taken care of to stand the test of time.
He was also grateful to the Dizemtaaba group for the donation and urged them to continue to walk the path which will bring development to Kassena-Nankana.
