US transwoman cries out after her gender was changed to ‘male’ in new passport

US Transwoman/Perysian Zaya Mekhi

A transwoman in the United States has expressed her distress after receiving an email stating that officials had altered her gender designation from female to male.

Assigned male at birth, she later transitioned to female and posted a video expressing frustration over officials’ reversal.

In the video, transwoman Perysian Zaya Mekhi displayed her passport bio page, listing her gender as “M,” despite her feminine appearance.

This change happened after President Donald Trump’s administration enacted a policy rescinding protections for transgender individuals, requiring officials to classify genders based on birth.

She said, “In case you’re wondering what it’s like being transgender under this new administration.

“I just got my new passport in the mail, and they changed the gender to male because of Donald Trump.”

Zaya noted that all her documents recognize her as female and that she completed her transition surgically.

Officials wrote to her, “The sex was corrected on your passport application. We made the changes for one of the following reasons: to match our record.”
