US press attaché engages Asaase Radio on strengthening media partnerships

Matthew Asada (US press attaché), Joyce Asiedu (US Embassy media officer, second left) and Suzzy Ansah (Voice of America, far right) meet Asaase Radio management, 17 July 2025

The newly appointed press attaché at the US Embassy in Accra, Matthew K Asada, has paid a courtesy call on the general manager of Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd, Jimmy Kutin, in a familiarisation tour of Ghana’s media landscape.

The meeting at the Asaase Radio headquarters in Accra was in line with broader efforts by the press attaché to deepen understanding and co-operation with key media stakeholders across the country.

Kutin warmly welcomed Asada and his delegation, which included Suzzy Ansah of Voice of America (VOA) Ghana and Joyce Asiedu, media officer at the US Embassy.

Also present was William Diego Parker-Benin, head of events and partnerships at Asaase Broadcasting.

In his remarks, Kutin highlighted the long-standing and cordial relationship between Asaase and the US Embassy.

He expressed Asaase’s continued commitment to deepening that relationship through strategic collaborations, particularly in capacity-building initiatives for newsroom staff.

He also emphasised the station’s growing focus on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in news production and storytelling, an area in which future US-Ghana partnerships could prove valuable.

Professionalism

Asada, who assumed his post in Ghana late last year, praised Asaase Radio for its professional coverage of the 2024 US election and its consistent journalistic standards.

He acknowledged the evolving US foreign aid policy, noting the drawdown of USAID funding and shifts in media support, even in the United States itself. Despite these changes, he reiterated the embassy’s commitment to strengthening media ties in Ghana.

He outlined three key areas for potential collaboration with Asaase going forward. Top among them was the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across 16 cities in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Asada expressed interest in how Asaase and other partners could help Ghanaians across the 16 regions experience the excitement of the global event through regional fan festivals and cross-cultural broadcasts.

The meeting concluded with mutual assurances of continuing dialogue and co-operation between the US Embassy and Asaase Broadcasting Company, aimed at enriching the media ecosystem in Ghana and fostering people-to-people connections through storytelling, events and impactful journalism.
