Upper West Region confirms five more MMDCEs as process advances

The confirmation exercises were supervised by a team led by Upper West Regional Minister Charles Lwanga Puozuin, who is coordinating the process across the districts

The confirmation of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Upper West Region has continued steadily, with five more nominees successfully endorsed on Tuesday (22 April 2025).

This brings the number of confirmed MMDCEs in the region to nine.

The confirmation exercises were supervised by a team led by Upper West Regional Minister Charles Lwanga Puozuin, who is coordinating the process across the districts.

Last week, Jirapa, Sissala East, Wa West, Wa Central, and Wa East districts held their respective confirmation sessions. While four districts endorsed their nominees, Wa East District rejected its presidential nominee, making it the only district yet to confirm a representative.

In the Sissala West District, Fuseini Adamu Gbene received overwhelming support, securing all 30 votes cast and becoming the youngest DCE in the region. In his victory speech, he dedicated the achievement to all the 16 applicants who competed for the position and called for unity to drive development in Sissala West.

In the Nandom Municipality, Anthony Zienel was unanimously endorsed with 35 ‘Yes’ votes. He pledged to collaborate closely with the Member of Parliament, Richard Kuhn-Ireh, and continue building on the foundations laid by his predecessors.

Also, in Daffiama Bussie Issa District, James Wor was confirmed with 18 ‘Yes’ votes and 3 ‘No’ votes. He described the confirmation as a victory for the entire district and called for collective effort towards development.

The Lambussie District, Naawulle Ireneous Basingbie received unanimous endorsement, polling all 35 votes cast. Meanwhile, in Lawra Municipality, Alhaji Muazu Adams secured 33 ‘Yes’ votes against 8 ‘No’ votes.

The final confirmation exercise in the region is scheduled to take place in Nadowli/Kaleo District on 28 April 2025.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama is expected to either re-nominate the rejected Wa East candidate or propose a new nominee for consideration.
