Upper East Regional Police Command announce mass burial of unclaimed bodies

COVID-19 burial team

The Upper East Regional Police Command has announced plans by the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital to conduct a mass burial for several unidentified bodies currently being kept at the hospital morgue.

In a statement issued in October 2025 and signed by Chief Inspector Abdul Rahman Sumaila, the police urged members of the public to visit the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital to identify and claim the remains of their relatives before the burial takes place.

The statement further cautioned residents to always carry a valid national identification card when leaving their homes to help authorities identify victims in the event of an emergency or accident.

“The general public is advised to carry along any of their National Identification (ID) cards when stepping out to prevent such situations in case of any eventuality,” the police said.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring dignity in handling unidentified bodies, while appealing to families to cooperate with the hospital authorities before the planned disposal exercise.
