The vice-president said all the necessary arrangements for the commencement of work have been done and work would soon start

Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that roads in three school campuses within the Navrongo Municipality in the Upper East Region will be given a facelift.

He said as part of the government’s measures to ease movement within school campuses across the country, the government will construct 4km asphalt roads each on the campuses of the Navrongo Senior High School, the St. John Bosco College of Education and the C. K Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences.

Dr Bawumia who underscored the need for improved roads on school campuses said all necessary arrangements for the commencement of work have been done and work would soon start.

Dr Bawumia was speaking at the 60th-anniversary celebration of the Navrongo Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality where he was the guest of honour.

He said, “In honour of this 60th anniversary, the government is going to construct 4km of asphalt roads on the Navrongo Senior High School campus. But once we bring the contractors to Navrongo Senior High School, the agreement is that they are not only going to do the roads in Navrongo Senior High School but they will continue to C.K Tedam University with another 4km and the St. John Bosco College of Education with another 4km of asphalt. So, we will be seeing an upgrading of the roads.”

Infrastructure projects

The vice-president further indicated that the government was undertaking over 3,000 infrastructure projects in various schools across the country to improve the quality of education.

He said out of that number, 164 of the projects were being undertaken in schools in the Upper East Region and were between 50 – 57% complete.

Dr Bawumia said the government is committed to the completion of these projects to ameliorate the infrastructure difficulties faced by schools across the country, including the Navrongo Senior High School.

“The goal of quality education can only be attained with appropriate investment in educational infrastructure. It is on the part of this understanding the government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has embarked on over 3,000 various infrastructure projects in schools across the country. Nearly 50% of them have been completed.

“In the Upper East Region, about 164 of the educational projects have been undertaken with 57% of them completed.”

He added, “We will ensure that these projects are completed as soon as possible to ameliorate the problems of inadequate infrastructure in the schools or this school is facing. We will also take steps to complete a girls’ dormitory that has stalled.”
