Ashanti Region: Agogo residents protest closure of Salt FM by NCA

According to the National Communications Authority (NCA), Salt FM was shut down for failing to renew its authorisation

Residents of Agogo in the Asante Akim North Municipality of the Ashanti Region took to the streets on Tuesday (6 February) in protest after the National Communications Authority (NCA) closed down Salt FM.

The radio station, owned by businessman Ohene Kwame Frimpong, who recently declared his intention to run as an independent parliamentary candidate, was shut down for failing to renew its authorisation, according to the NCA.

Some equipment was seized during the operation. However, residents suspect political motives behind the closure, pointing to Frimpong’s recent walk, which garnered massive support.

Managers of the radio station are yet to comment on the matter.
