UMaT’s Prof George Agyei joins GIADEC board

Prof Agyei’s appointment reflects not only his expertise in mining engineering but also his longstanding commitment to academia, research, and industrial development

The head of the mining engineering department at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Professor George Agyei, has been appointed to the board of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), a key body spearheading Ghana’s efforts to build an integrated aluminium industry.

The university community commended Prof Agyei for this milestone and expressed confidence in his ability to make meaningful contributions to Ghana’s aluminium industry.

“We look forward to the exceptional contributions and impact you will make in this important role,” the university wrote in a congratulatory message shared on Facebook.

Prof Agyei’s appointment reflects not only his expertise in mining engineering but also his longstanding commitment to academia, research, and industrial development.

His presence on the GIADEC board is expected to enhance collaboration between industry and academia, and help steer the Corporation’s strategic direction.

The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) is a state-owned entity established by the Government of Ghana in 2018 under the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation Act (Act 976).

Its mandate is to promote and develop a globally competitive integrated aluminium industry in Ghana, spanning the full value chain—from mining bauxite to refining alumina, smelting aluminium, and manufacturing aluminium products.
