Two people were killed and 13 others injured on Thursday after a head-on collision between a commercial minibus and a sport-utility vehicle on the Anyinam–Enyiresi section of the Accra–Kumasi Highway, officials said.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received an emergency call at 09:21 and dispatched a six-member rescue team, arriving on site 15 minutes later.
A Toyota Hiace travelling from Nkawkaw toward Accra had attempted an improper overtaking manoeuvre, veered off its lane and crashed into an oncoming Honda Pilot, eyewitnesses told authorities.
The driver of the Honda Pilot and a female passenger were trapped in the wreckage and were extricated by firefighters, but both were pronounced dead on arrival at the Enyiresi Government Hospital.
Thirteen other passengers — 12 men and one woman — had been taken to the same facility before responders arrived, the GNFS said.
Fire officials cleared the debris and restored traffic flow on the busy highway before returning to base.
