The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the violent clashes that occurred at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, 30 August 2025.
The violence resulted in the deaths of three people and left several others injured.
Acting on intelligence, a combined team from the Accra Regional Police Command and the Special Support Unit of the National Headquarters apprehended Christian Saka Ahianyevi, 35, a private security officer, on August 30, 2025, and Newton Alotey, 26, a dispatch rider, on 31 August 2025. Both suspects are believed to have played significant roles in the festival unrest.
During Newton Alotey’s arrest, police seized 18 spent BB cartridges in his possession. Christian Saka Ahianyevi was found with a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other related exhibits. All recovered items have been duly secured by the police.
Currently, the suspects remain in police custody and are cooperating fully with ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, law enforcement has maintained a robust security presence in the affected Omanjor communities to prevent further disturbances.
The Accra Regional Police Command has called on all factions and local residents to stay calm and support security agencies in their work. Authorities urge anyone possessing credible information about additional suspects to come forward by contacting police emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
