Canelo Alvarez calls out Oscar De La Hoya

There's been animosity between Alvarez and De La Hoya ever since the current super middleweight champion decided to drop Golden Boy Promotions as his representation

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (60-2, 39 KOs), the undisputed super middleweight world champion, reignited his feud with boxing legend and promoter Oscar De La Hoya in a fiery exchange at the final pre-fight press conference for Alvarez’s upcoming bout against undefeated contender Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs).

Alvarez, who faces Munguia on Saturday (4 May) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, accused De La Hoya of attempting to steal the spotlight from his own fighter.

“I said he is a f**king a**hole. That’s what I said. He tried to keep the attention on him, not for Munguia. He steals from his fighters; that’s what he does. F**king p**sy. Whenever you want, I’m here for you too. Mother f**ker!”

The animosity between Alvarez and De La Hoya has simmered since the boxer left De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions stable in 2020.

The tension reached boiling point during the press conference on Wednesday (1 May), with security forced to intervene to prevent a physical altercation.
