Tragedy in Dormaa: 22-year-old shot dead at illegal mining site

The community of Aboabo in the Dormaa Central Municipality has been left in shock and mourning after a 22-year-old man was shot dead at a suspected illegal mining site on Sunday, 31 August 2025.

The victim, identified as Isahaku Yeboah, was reportedly gunned down in the afternoon by unidentified assailants at a site believed to be used for galamsey (illegal mining) activities. The attackers fled immediately after the incident, sparking panic among residents.

Details surrounding the shooting remain unclear, but locals say the tragedy highlights the growing dangers that illegal mining continues to pose in the area.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, while the body of the deceased has been taken to the morgue for preservation and further investigations.

The killing has reignited calls for a stronger national crackdown on illegal mining, which many Ghanaians argue is fueling insecurity, violence, and widespread environmental degradation.

For residents of Aboabo, the death of Isahaku Yeboah is not just a personal tragedy but a painful reminder of the escalating human cost of illegal mining across the country.
