President Faustin-Archange Touadera has won re-election in the Central African Republic, securing a third term in office, according to provisional results released by the country’s electoral commission on Monday night.
The results show that Touadera obtained an outright majority in the presidential election held on 28 December, eliminating the need for a second round of voting.
The announcement follows a tightly managed electoral process held amid security concerns and political tensions in the country. Final results are expected to be confirmed by the Constitutional Court in the coming days.
Touadera, who has been in power since 2016, is set to continue leading the Central African Republic as it grapples with ongoing security challenges and economic difficulties.
