Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has called on his supporters to remain calm following a U.S. court ruling that ordered him to pay $18 million in damages to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas for defamatory remarks.
Speaking at his campaign office in Shiashie upon his return to Ghana this morning (27 March), Agyapong expressed gratitude to his supporters for their unwavering encouragement.
He assured them that he would formally address the issue at the appropriate time.
“I want to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you for the wonderful welcome you have given me and my wife. This will inspire me to continue doing what I do—speaking for the voiceless,” he said.
Despite the court’s decision, Agyapong remained defiant, stating that his experiences had strengthened his resolve to fight for justice and truth.
“Nobody should worry. Anyone who speaks the truth and stands for the voiceless will face challenges. But through this ordeal, I have become a better person, and I will continue to fight and defend the truth,” he assured his supporters.
Agyapong, known for his outspoken nature, reiterated his commitment to his advocacy, vowing not to be discouraged by legal battles. He promised to address the ruling in detail at the right time, urging his followers to remain steadfast.
His comments come after a U.S. court found him liable for defamatory statements against Anas, leading to the multi-million-dollar judgement.
While the ruling has sparked reactions across political and media circles, Agyapong is calling for calm.
