President John Dramani Mahama’s first three ministerial nominees, Cassiel Ato Forson, John Abdulai Jinapor, and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, have earned plaudits for their poise and competence during their vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
The three nominees, designated for the key portfolios of Finance, Energy, and Justice, respectively, faced rigorous questioning on Monday (13 January).
Their performance was described as “creditable” by Clement Akoloh, Communications Officer of the Parliamentary Network Africa (PNAfrica).
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show (ABS) on Tuesday (14 January), Akoloh commended the nominees for handling themselves with composure and clarity.
“It was up to the members of parliament who were part of the committee to actually bring out all there is in the members who have been nominated,” Akoloh noted.
“By their actions and the way they answer the questions for us to see whether they are really up to the task.”
“Based on that, the questions, they answered them as much as they could. I think they comported themselves well.”
He highlighted the ability of the nominees to maintain their composure under pressure, noting that the vetting process not only scrutinises their knowledge and competence but also tests their character.
“Some of these exercises are supposed to also test the character of the people, how they respond to questions and how they deal with some awkward situations,” Akoloh explained.
“On the face of it, they all delivered creditably, according to the questions that were asked them, and at some point in time, they were patient enough to wait for repeated questions.”
