The police administration has begun investigations to unravel circumstances leading to the death of the police officer at his duty point

A police officer stationed at the National Protection Unit, Constable Yelnona Eugene, has been gunned down at his duty point, the police administration has announced.

A statement issued and signed by Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Supt Sheilla  Kessie Abayie-Buckman, said investigations have commenced to unravel circumstances leading to his death.

“The Police administration reports of the death of No. 53543 G/Const. Yelnona Eugene stationed at the National Protection Unit (NPU) on 1 February 2021. Investigation has already commenced to unravel the circumstances of his death, while the family of the Police Officer has also been informed of the death,” the statement said.

The police administration is urging the public to be sensitive and circumspect in their commentary on the death.

This is coming barely a week after the Half Assini District Commander, Supt. Cyprian Zeno, was found dead with a gunshot wound at his residence at about 7 am on Saturday 30 January 2021.

Prior to that a police officer was in January shot dead at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region. The Lance Corporal was in mufti and on his way to the office when he was shot.

The attack on him follows a shoot out between the police and some armed robbers who had attacked a fuel station in the town.
