MTN FA Cup: Nania FC knock out Hearts of Oak on penalties

The record holders Hearts of Oak have been knocked out of the MTN FA Cup at round 64 stage after losing 4-3 on penalties

Division One League side Nania FC knocked out Hearts of Oak from the 2023/2024 MTN FA Cup, winning 4-3 on penalties in a round of 64 game on Wednesday.

The game ended goalless at the Kpobiman Sports Complex which meant penalties would decide the winner of the one-leg tie.

Both teams converted their first three spot kicks, but Hearts of Oak missed their fourth, allowing Nania FC to take advantage and secure a 4-3 win.

It means the record holders of the completion will have to wait for another year to win their 13th title after winning in 2022.

Hearts of Oak had a good start in the game making incursions but could not break the deadlock.

Kwadwo Obeng Jnr missed the target narrowly with the first big chance of the game before Nurudeen forced a save from the visiting goalkeeper late in the first half.

The second half did not see many chances, unlike the first half. Obeng Junior almost gave the house the lead after a brilliant solo run but his effort went wide.

In the other games, Koforidua Semper beat Attram de Visser SA two nil at home.

Elmina sharks beat Young Red Bull 3-0, Legon cities won 3-0 at home to Hearts of Lions.

PAC Academy were one nil winners at New Edubiase and Skyy FC were two nil winners over Samartex.
