VGMA 2023: I am not disappointed I lost to Black Sherif, says Piesie Esther

According to the "Waye meyie" singer, all the eight artistes who made it to the Artiste of the Year category deserved it because they equally lived up to the mark

Gospel singer Piesie Esther has said she is not disappointed losing out on the Artiste of the Year award to Black Sherif at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards night on Saturday (6 May).

“I won’t lie Black Sherif and all the other artistes who made it there worked harder and it could have gone for any of us. Although the competition was tough between me and Black Sherif he won and I want to congratulate him on winning the ultimate,” she told Graphic Showbiz.

Asked whether she was pleased with the awards she won on the night, Piesie Esther who won Best Gospel Song and Best Gospel Artiste said she was more than pleased having won these two awards for the first time in 20 years.

“I have been doing music for the past 20 years and I have not had any of these awards, so winning big today is an incredible thing for me and I am so excited,” she said.

“I am grateful. I want to thank everyone who voted for me,” Esther said.

The 24th edition of this year’s VGMA organised by Charterhouse took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
